Our Story

AutoSlash was founded by Jonathan Weinberg in early 2010. The company started with the simple idea that people should be able to get the cheapest possible price on a car rental without having to do a lot of work. Weinberg credits his mother for the genesis of the company, since she was the one who suggested that he turn his obsessive knack for “gaming the system” into a business.

Early Days

From its earliest days, AutoSlash was receiving kudos from travel experts and consumer advocates. In 2011, travel expert Pauline Frommer named AutoSlash one of her favorite travel websites. The same year, CNN named AutoSlash one of the 10 most useful travel websites.

That’s not to say that everyone loved us. Most notably, AutoSlash met with some resistance from major car rental companies. As The New York Times reported in 2012, “The reaction in some corners of the industry has been something like revulsion. Enterprise, which owns National and Alamo, won’t let AutoSlash show its cars and wouldn’t say why.” (AutoSlash shows all companies today.)

Rave Reviews

Since then, AutoSlash has racked up recommendations from Inc., Conde Nast Traveler, Travel + Leisure, and AwardWallet, to name just a few.

AutoSlash has also performed well in consumer review site tests. In a 2019 price test by ClarkDeals, a consumer site run by Clark Howard, AutoSlash beat the other car rental sites’ average price by 22 percent. In a similar side-by-side test by The Points Guy in 2020, a travel rewards site, AutoSlash beat the other booking sites by up to 77 percent.
